Magnificence?

Recently someone asserted that I am an atheist because I refuse to accept the magnificence of God and all that "he" has given us. This is so frustratingly wrong that I thought I would try to articulate my thoughts here. Behold, my thoughts manifest.

The astounding, ego-stomping enormity of all in existence can make you feel miniscule. It is because of this, not in spite of it, that I cherish the fantastic improbability of my being. The vanity of religion shrouds the truth, replacing it with a dogma that is far less inspiring.

When you truly understand evolution or the incredible vastness of our universe, (or nearly any other field of science) you cannot reasonably compare it to the myths purported by religion. The interconnected nature of all that we have learned and continue to learn is so overpoweringly supported by reproducible and provable evidence that no theology can equate.

Even so, many people prefer comfort to truth. The irony is that the bogeymen and myths that turn the religious away from science are of their own creation. They fear fantasies while denying provable reality. They contemplate manifestations derived from their religious text’s fallacies and loopholes.

The devout are so busy applying mortar to the gaps of their shoddy foundation that they hinder exploration of the reality in which we all live.

I assert that it is the religious who fail to appreciate their existence fully.
